Thompson Engineering is looking to add a Building Envelope Inspector to the Mobile, AL team.  The Building Envelope Inspector provides professional services as described below in the field of Building Envelope, including moisture control, and waterproofing. Review and interpret construction documents, contracts, codes, construction methods, and safety regulations.


Essential Functions of the Position

  1. Conduct on-site QC/QA observations and inspections of various components of the building envelope during and after construction for quality and conformance to specifications, codes, and schedules.
  2.  Use and operate various equipment such as ladders, aerial lifts and swing-stages to gain access to different components of the building envelope and structure, including being able to comfortably and safely perform work at elevated heights.
  3. Use and operate various testing equipment such as metering and measuring devices to perform specialized testing and investigations of in-place systems.
  4. Prepare computer generated professional reports to document general observations, conclusions, and recommendations for all services.
  5. Assist with the performance of general condition assessments, damage assessments, and investigations of system failures.
  6. Assist Project Managers in the preparation of general cost estimates and construction schedules.
  7. Assist Project Managers with tracking progress on assigned projects.
  8. Assist Consultants and Architects in the preparation of professional design documents.
  9. Confer with Supervisory personnel, Clients, Contractors, and Design Professionals to discuss and assist with the resolution of matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  10. Assist with identifying and developing contacts that meet identified client targets to increase sales of services.
  11. Help to establish and maintain relationships with new and existing clients and contractors for the purpose of general business development and marketing of services.
  12. Participate in continuing education programs to achieve and maintain required industry registrations and certifications.
  13. Read trade journals and professional literature to stay informed on trends, innovations, and changes that affect the building envelope and waterproofing industry.


Other Responsibilities

  1.  Adhere to the established Thompson Engineering Quality and Safety Procedures and general culture in all projects and daily work activities.
  2.  Assist other departments within Thompson Engineering and Watermark Design as needed.
  3.  Other duties as required.


Minimum Requirements

  1.  High school diploma or equivalent.
  2.  Minimum of two (2) years of general construction experience or in construction related fields.
  3.  Valid driver's license
  4.  Ability to pass and maintain clean drug screen and background checks for customer gate entry security requirements.
  5.  Communicate effectively and in detail with others written and verbally
  6.  Must be proficient in generating documents and navigating within Word and Excel computer programs.
  7.  Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the department needs.


Physical Requirements

  1.  Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 70 lbs.
  2.  Ability to buddy lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  3.  Drive a company vehicle in a safe manner.
  4.  Be familiar with small construction tools and be able to use them comfortably and safely.
  5.  Walk, stoop, bend, and climb up and down stairs and ladders.
  6.  Stand, walk and balance in irregular and uneven terrain and surfaces such as sloped roof areas.
  7.  Work at extremely high elevations without being overcome with fear, including working on roofs or from aerial lifts, swing-stage platforms and other equipment needed to access elevated sections of a building.
  8.  Work outside for extended periods in the heat and cold.
  9.  Ability to wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials.
