Thompson is looking for an experienced Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) technician in our Moss Point, MS location. The SUE Technician is responsible for locating geophysical features using GPR/RF equipment, collecting data, and mapping it in AutoCAD and Civil3D. The right candidate must have five (5) years experience in geophysical scanning, topographic/planimetric surveying, and mapping utilizing Auto CAD or Civil3D.  They must also have knowledge of GPR and RF equipment and Topcon Hyperlite GPS software.  


Essential Functions of the Position 

  1. Understands the theories and principles, as well as the practical application and execution of a geophysical survey for the purpose of locating utilities, voids and other underground features. Able to positively and repeatedly locate and identify underground features.  Able to differentiate between underground features such as piping, conduits, duct banks, cabling, voids, disturbed soil strata, etc. 
  2. Operates Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Radio Frequency (RF) equipment.
  3. Operates total station, digital and automatic level, Topcon data collector, TDS software.
  4. Operates AutoCAD and/or Civil3D.
  5. Ability to travel regularly and stay overnight (potentially for extended periods) based on the work load of the department and location of the project.


Other Responsibilities

  1.  Conducts all work activities in compliance with Thompson Holdings, Inc. Health, Safety & Environmental Management System, safety policies & procedures, safety execution plans and Job Safety and Environmental Analyses. Attend and pro-actively participate in monthly safety meetings, project toolbox safety meetings and safety moments.
  2. On time and consistent attendance is required.
  3. Other duties, in support of the department (including as-needed cross-training in other roles), as required.


Minimum Requirements

  1.  Five (5) years' experience in geophysical scanning, topographic/planimetric surveying, and mapping utilizing AutoCAD or Civil3D.
  2.  Must have effective working knowledge of GPS software using the Topcon Hyperlite. Must have effective working knowledge of GPR and RF equipment.
  3.  Must have effective working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  4.  High school diploma or equivalent.
  5.  Intermediate math skills which include trigonometry and geometry.
  6.  Able to communicate effectively with others. Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  7.  Able to read and comprehend drawings, work orders, and measurements
