Thompson Engineering has an immediate need for a Transportation Project Manager in our Atlanta, GA. office location. The Transportation Project Manager is competent in all conventional aspects of transportation design plans and conducts work requiring detailed knowledge, judgment and technical capabilities in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, criteria and can convey same in a technically accurate and efficient manner. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained and professionally licensed Engineer. Must be competent with transportation design resources such as Microstation, Inroads, and/or other relevant Engineering tools.

DUTIES

Essential Functions of the Position

1. Design duties will involve the management and supervision of junior staff.

2. Prepare project plans and schedules.

3. Consulting with clients, other engineers, vendors, etc., as necessary to determine the most practical and desirable engineering design in keeping with the budget.

4. Work as a team member to develop project scopes and budgets.

5. Mentor and development staff members.

6. Build new client relationships and maintain current client relationships.

7. Anticipating information needed and take the necessary action to obtain it.

8. Organizing, scheduling, and supervising the work of others so as to make the most efficient use of personnel and the allotted budget.

9. Effectively handle complex transportation design projects and efficiently utilize various company resources to accomplish the intended work.

10. Coordinating, supervising, checking, and assuming responsibility for all work done under his/her direction, including Engineer Associates, Designers, Drafters, and Technicians working on a project for which the Project Engineer is the Engineer of Record.

11. Coordinating work with that of other designers, architects, estimators, purchasing personnel, management, etc., involved in the project.

12. Marketing the Companies' services to current and potential clients and participating in business development activities.

13. Following company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

1. A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

2. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Georgia

3. Twenty years of engineering experience.

4. Project management experience with GDOT and/or local municipalities.

5. Project Management experience with roadway design projects - including cost estimates, technical reports, construction plans.

6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate meetings, conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.

7. Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills and be a self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible individual who possess the initiative and ability to tackle new projects, challenges, and concepts.

8. Proficiency with AASHTO and relevant state DOT design standards and policies.

Physical Requirements

1. Valid drivers' license and ability to drive on company business.

2. Must be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time.
